The laser treatment is intended for spider veins, not thick varicose veins, which require a vascular surgery!
Removal of dilated vessels on legs with the MeDioStar® laser machine
Laser removal of dilated vessels is a gentle, non-invasive elimination of vascular defects on the legs. This procedure uses a vascular laser, which destroys damaged vessels in the surface layers of the skin, leaving the surrounding healthy skin intact. The treatment is recommended for dilated vessels on the lower limbs from above the ankle area up to the thighs.
How does the MeDioStar® vascular laser work?
The vascular laser is based on the principle of selective photothermolysis, which means that the laser beam focuses on haemoglobin in the dilated vessels. The light energy is converted to heat, which destroys the damaged vascular structures. Subsequently, these broken vessels are naturally absorbed by the heat and the skin gradually becomes smooth.
The therapy with the "Made in Germany" MeDioStar® diode laser machine provides an effective, precise non-invasive solution. The MeDioStar® features an ergonomic head specially designed for treatment using a wavelength of 940 nm.
The procedure is rapid and effective, with minimum recovery period. To achieve an optimum result, several sessions may be required depending on the extent of the vessels. The results are usually visible after the first session, but the skin continues to improve over the next few weeks.
Process of the treatment
Consultation prior to the treatment
Before the treatment, we need to examine the extent and size of the dilated vessels in order to determine whether the laser therapy is suitable and what number of sessions is required.
Preparation for the treatment
Before the treatment, we carefully cleanse the affected area; the patient lies down or sits in a comfortable position. Between the laser pulses, the skin is cooled by a special head, which reduces pain. However, despite this measure, more sensitive persons may experience slight stinging or burning sensation in the laser application area.
Laser beam
We use a special laser head, which precisely focuses on the dilated vessels. The laser beam penetrates through the skin where haemoglobin in the blood absorbs it. This results in heating and destroying the damaged vessel without damaging the surrounding tissues.
During the treatment, the patient can feel slight stinging or burning sensation in the laser operating area, but it is usually brief and bearable.
Duration of the treatment
The duration of the treatment depends on the size and extent of the treated area. On a smaller area, it can take only several minutes, but larger areas may require 30 to 60 minutes.
Why is treatment around the ankles not recommended?
The area of the ankle and below it is considered too delicate for laser treatment. The skin and blood vessels in this area are extremely sensitive, which increases the risk of complications such as bruises, blisters, inflammations or painful reactions. For this reason, this treatment is carried out only from the ankle upwards.
Possible complications
Although the treatment is safe, there is a likelihood of several side effects. These include:
- Bruises: Bruises can appear on the treated area, but they usually disappear within a few days.
- Reddening and irritation: The skin may temporarily redden, but this condition subsides within a few hours or days.
- Small scabs: Small scabs may appear in some cases, but they should be allowed natural separation – do not intentionally remove the scabs!
- Painful sensations: More sensitive patients may experience slight stinging or burning sensation in the laser pulse area, especially immediately after the treatment.
Care after leg vessel laser treatment
After the treatment, you should keep the following instructions:
Avoid direct sunlight on the treated areas, use high SPF creams. Avoid hot baths, saunas, sports activities and excessive physical exertion or long standing without movement for at least a week after the treatment. Treat the skin with gentle moisturizers that promote faster healing.
Results and expectations
The results of the treatment can vary depending on the individual condition of the skin and size of the dilated vessels. The first improvement usually becomes apparent after the first session, but several treatments may be required for permanent results. Most patients need 2 to 3 sessions. The minimum gaps between the treatments are 6 to 8 weeks.
